ADD THESE TO YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS LIST

I know what you’re thinking… it’s early Jan and you’re doing a blog post on new year resolutions, how typical. Well, you’re not wrong but also it may not be what you’re expecting.
Everyone makes a new year resolutions list, but most people put their future goals such as, new home, save up for a new car, finish my degree without going crazy - things like that! BUT as many people in the world have said (who knows who said it first) it’s the little things that count.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t work hard on your set goals and dreams, but what I am saying is that sometimes I think we forget to take a step back and think of how we’re going mentally. Have you ever set goals for how you want to BE and FEEL in 2019? Such as gossip less or write down 5 things every day that you have learnt or are thankful for. To get to our BIG goals and BIG dreams we need to be mindful of where our heads are at.

FIND NEW HOBBIES

Starting off with a hard one.

Finding a new hobby can be difficult because we often tell ourselves that we’d be awful at it before we even try it. So your first step is pretty much STOP the self doubt!

Hobbies are perfect for distracting our minds. It gives you something to do in your spare time rather than sitting on your phone or binge watching Netflix! (not going to lie, sometimes binge Netflix is just what you need).

When someone asks you what you’re hobbies are, people automatically think it has to be something artistic. Which yes, in most cases they are but not always! You could start gardening, learn to cook/ bake, macrame… the list goes on!

TAKE A STEP BACK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Instagram is everywhere now. Sometimes it feels like you can’t escape it. You love it but you hate it. Instagram isn’t a bad thing, it has so many great things about it! But limiting your time on it will seriously benefit you!

Remember, instagram isn’t real life.

ARE YOUR FRIENDS BEING NICE TO YOU?

As you get older you start to realise that not everyone you meet is worth keeping close. You also start to realise that you can’t be bothered to keep in contact with them all! (haha)

For some reason, girls always seem to get themselves into pickles with their friends. Learn the difference between a good friend and a toxic friend. The toxic ones might be fun to hang out with but that’s all it is. They always end up using you then moving onto the next friend to do the fun and silly things with!

Good friends lift you up! They tell you the things you don’t want to hear but need to hear. They’re the ones you keep close.

GET COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN

Have no makeup days! I’m not talking lounging around at home in your pjs with no makeup on. No, I mean, go to work looking and feeling fresh!

Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way! There’s no better feeling than being yourself and flaunting it.

GO OUTSIDE

I mean, I feel silly adding this one to the list but we forget!! If you work/ study full time sometimes we don’t have time to go for a stroll. But excuses will always be excuses. Taking a quick walk at lunch break is GREAT thinking time. Clear your head… and don’t even think about looking at instagram while at it!!

IT'S NOT SELFISH TO HAVE ME TIME

We all have days where we just can’t wait to go home and be alone. It’s important to spend time with yourself and remember who you are.

If you don’t feel too lame, start journalling. I know we’re not 10 anymore and don’t need a place to write down our name linked with our crush’s name. But it’s a good outlet. Our minds can get cluttered and it’s good to write it all out so it becomes more clear - easier to visualise. You never know, you might become the next Carrie Bradshaw… “and then I thought to myself, do we all just need clarity?”

COMPLIMENT PEOPLE ON THE REG

If you’re thinking something nice about someone you should probably just tell them!!! There is no harm done in complimenting someone! You never know, it could make their day and will always leave you feeling happy.

READ MORE BOOKS

I hate to bring up Instagram again but it seems to be that instagram and clickbait have become the new read. CHANGE THAT. Nothing can beat reading a real book in real life. You learn new things and become wiser. Maybe you’re struggling with a new pitch at work or a new subject at uni. Reading a book or magazine that interests you might give you that light bulb moment! I doubt you’ll find that while scrolling through Instagram…

ASK YOURSELF "AM I BEING NICE?"

I don’t mean to sound like your mum, but also when are mums ever wrong!

Have you ever thought how you present yourself in everyday situations? You might not even realise but you might look unhappy (aka; resting bitch face), or there might have been a common mistake of miscommunication at home… seriously it could be anything!!! But if you are making a conscious effort to be nice to people then that reflects you as a person.

Being nice is always remembered by others.
