VG TEAM TALKS SKINCARE

Let's talk skincare, baby!

Looking after your skin can be tough. We all have such different skin types and it's hard to know who to listen to when buying products. That's why we wanted to share with you our skincare routines! Tips, tricks and all! We all have such different routines so we're hoping you can relate to at least one of us... plus, who doesn't love talking about beauty products?!?

SKIN TYPE:

Combination/ sensitive skin. I’ve never had perfect skin, I have always struggled with acne/ breakouts. But I have recently been seeing a skin specialist and now have a skincare routine I really enjoy! At the moment all my products are by Skinstitut.

MORNING ROUTINE:

In the morning I splash my face with water, I do not use a cleanser, I keep this for night time. My specialist recommended this to ensure I don’t dry out my skin. I then apply the Skinstitut Multi Active Mist to hydrate, followed by a light moisturiser. I ALWAYS put on sunscreen with a light tint and the Sunday Reily Eye Cream.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

At night I like to cleanse my face with the Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser, it’s lightweight and foams up to the perfect amount! I apply the Multi Active Mist again - usually 3-4 sprays. I then alternate between applying Retinol Serum 3-4 nights a week OR before applying the mist I use the Enzyme Micro Peel Mask - this is amazing for dewy skin! I always end with moisturiser.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Spend the time finding what works for you. Everyones skin is so different and it really does take trial and error.
  • Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!
  • Keep hydrated
  • Find a good mask, this can make a huge difference
  • If you struggle with acne, be patient and let your skin heal

SKIN TYPE:

I have combination skin…

MORNING ROUTINE:

I use a toner in the morning ‘La Prairie’. I feel like it wakes me up and refreshes my skin. Then I LOVE my Glow Recipe Moisturiser. It smells amazing, it’s super light and non greasy.
Thats literally it! I don’t wear foundation/ tinted moisturiser which allows me to keep my routine simple.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

I clean my face with Cetaphil wipes haha! After a long day they really feel like they give my face a good clean because they’re a bit scratchy (they clean eye makeup off really well too!) I also use my my fave NOTO face and neck oil before bed and once a week I use my Glow Recipe Mask before bed too.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • I love witch hazel, it’s the best for any breakouts or an extra toner.
  • Simple is best. Over cleaning is not fair on our skin. It needs nice oils to keep hydrated.
  • Also I NEVER touch my face with dirty hands! I feel like it’s gross to spread germs onto my face haha :)

SKIN TYPE:

My skin can get very dry during the colder months so I have to factor that into my skin routine.

MORNING ROUTINE:

The minute I wake up I have to splash my face with water before starting anything. Then depending on the season I work out what cleanser to use. During the winter I’ve found Clarins Cleansing Milk has been a lifesaver for my dry skin. Then in summer, Clarins Gentle Exfoliator is my go-to. Then I use my Clarins Toning Lotion with camomile and the Clarins Super Restorative Eye Concentrate (because anyone who knows me knows I get sleepy eyes.) Then I finish off with Clarins Day Cream.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

My night routine really isn’t that different from my morning. I use the same Clarins Cleansing Milk or exfoliator, toner, eye concentrate then my night cream. The night cream is a little bit thicker than the day cream. If I feel like my skin needs a bit more glow and moisture, I use my Glow Recipe Watermelon Mask (feels and smells amazing!!)

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • I’ve always found less is more. I try to stick to not too many products.
  • Since using skincare I’ve always used the same brand. My mum used Clarins and it always worked for her so I’ve stuck with that.
  • One last tip (which I need to work on :P) is making sure I don’t get burnt! Everyone knows I love to tan at the beach every weekend but what isn’t fun is peeling sunburn which comes later! :(

SKIN TYPE:

Normal I’m pretty sure :)

MORNING ROUTINE:

I don’t have a super hectic morning routine. Usually I wake up, I wash my face with QV face wash and I tone my face with witch hazel (I just buy this from the chemist or the supermarket.) If I feel like my skin is starting to break out, witch hazel is my saviour. Then I moisturise with the Glow Recipe Watermelon moisturiser - It’s sort of like a serum/ moisturiser, it’s not really oily… I hate oily moisturisers.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

I always remove my makeup before bed, I can’t sleep with makeup on. I will either wash my face with Cetaphil face wash or I like using the wipes as well. Then I just use water wipes, witch hazel and my moisturiser. Also a few times a week I wash my face with Dermalogica Clearing Skin to prevent breakouts.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Since going off the pill my skin breaks out randomly so I try to minimise what I use and only use products that will control my breakouts.
  • I think water wipes are literally the best for removing makeup. They don’t make your skin feel like it has a layer of oil on it like a lot of other wipes or makeup removers do.

SKIN TYPE:

I have very fair, quite sensitive skin so I try to avoid any products with really harsh chemicals and try to opt for more natural products.

MORNING ROUTINE:

As a self confessed morning hater, I leave myself very little time in the morning to do anything but I always make sure to cleanse my face of any oil or dirt that has built up over night with Sukin Micellar Water. It’s infused with gentle ingredients and removes overnight buildup. I particularly love this brand as they are completely natural and void of all harsh chemicals. I follow this by using the Sukin Facial Moisturiser which has rosehip and avocado in it so it feels super light on my skin and also drys really quickly.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

The first thing I do in the evenings is cleanse my skin with the Sukin Micellar Cleansing Water to completely remove my makeup (I also love this product as it’s more sustainable than using face wipes!) I then use the skin facial toning spray which you can also use after applying makeup. Then lastly I use the Sukin Calming Night Cream which has been especially designed for sensitive skin and leaves it feeling super hydrated in the morning. I find with sensitive skin, less is always more! Once a week I’ll try to use a red clay face mask. This helps unclog pores, detoxifies and brightens skin and it always leaves my face feeling super soft and fresh!

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Dry skin sucks but rosehip oil is a life saver. It literally brings my skin back to life in the colder months.

SKIN TYPE:

I would say normal! My skin isn’t sensitive at all which is great. I did suffer from hormonal acne though and spent 6 months on Roaccutane (acne treatment medication) which can be really harsh on your skin and really drying! But once you complete the treatment you’ll never see a pimple again!

MORNING ROUTINE:

With advice from my dermatologist, my routine is really simple now. I cleanse once in the morning with Cetaphil Face Wash and I lightly moisturise with Cetaphil Moisturiser. I also try and remember to put on sunscreen, especially if I know i’ll be outside for a longer period.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

Again a super simple night routine. I cleanse twice with Cetaphil to ensure I remove all my makeup or concealer. I sometimes use a face washer as a light scrub. Each night I use Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask (which our VG bosses Dan & Nat actually gave to me once.) You sleep in this and it’s so hydrating and makes your skin SO soft and smooth. I love the Estee Lauder Revitalising Supreme Eye Balm as a nightly eye cream too.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • You can also use the Avocado Melt Mask before applying makeup! Apply a thicker layer and leave on for 10 mins, then rinse. It will give you a GLOW!

SKIN TYPE:

I have dry, sensitive skin. Pretty much all my skincare is Mario Badescu. Their products are all pretty light and straight forward. It’s super affordable and I like the packaging (that’s important right?)

MORNING ROUTINE:

When I wake up I use Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner on a cotton pad, I just wipe it on my face. It gets extra dirt off and fights any upcoming pimps (plus you’d be surprised how dirty the cotton pad will look even after you’ve just been sleeping.) Then I rub a few drops of Vitamin C serum into my skin. I sooooooo recommend Vitamin C serum, if you start incorporating this into your everyday routine you’ll notice the difference. THEN I use a face moisturiser. I swear by those Maybelline creams, the ones that ‘stop you from ageing’ I feel like they work (maybe its a mind thing.) I remember when I was younger I read in a magazine that you should start using anti ageing creams from a young age to get a head start - so I did haha!

NIGHT ROUTINE:

I wash my face with the Aloe Vera Lotion, I like it cause it doesn’t dry out my skin, then that same toner. In Summer I try not to use too much moisturiser before I go to bed. If I get hot at night then it can make my skin sweat, ew. But I do use this eye cream, it’s called Glycolic Eye Cream. I lather that on under my eyes and lids and any excess I rub into my cheeks and forehead. This stuff is the bomb. It tightens your skin and prevents fine lines. I like this better than using it in the morning as it can look really shiny on your skin.
That’s all I really do at night. Sometimes I might do a face mask before I hop in the shower. Mario have a good one called Strawberry Tonic Mask. It’s a clay mask and I feel like it matifies my skin… in a good way.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • When in the shower let your face wash sit on your skin for a bit, I feel like people always wash it off straight away!
  • A good trick with eye cream is to double the thickness before you go to bed so it’s like an eye mask and then during your sleep your skin is soaking it all up!! You gotta look after the skin under your eyes ladies!!

SKIN TYPE:

Combination skin/ sensitive skin.

MORNING ROUTINE:

I don’t do too much in the morning but I do always use Sukin Gel Cleanser while in the shower to give my face a fresh, clean start. After showering I then apply Natural Instinct Radiance Mist (earth marine & rose water.) Following this I moisturise with Sukins facial moisturiser, which soothes the skin and is nice and lightweight which I love! Lastly, I always finish my skin care routine by applying my Lanolips 101 Ointment.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

I start by taking off my makeup with a warm, wet face cloth. I take a small handful of coconut oil out of the jar (it’s usually solid) then I melt it by rubbing it in my hands and gently massage it into my skin. I’ll then leave it on for a few seconds to let it do it’s thing then remove with my warm face cloth. I then go in with the same Sukin Gel Cleanser to remove any left over oils. Next, I use Sukins Green Tea Hydrating Mist Toner which feels so nice on the skin. After this I apply Botani Olive Skin Serum - mostly just under my eyes. This helps softens lines and evens skin tones. Finally I apply my Sukin Moisture Restoring Night Cream to my face and neck and then finish off my routine with the Lanolips 101 Ointment on my lips!

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Use coconut oil as a makeup remover. I’ve been using coconut oil for about the last five years and I can’t recommend it enough. I always found makeup wipes to be too abrasive on my skin and now I can’t go without my coconut oil!

SKIN TYPE:

I have normal to combination skin. My skin can be pretty sensitive so I’ve always tried to make sure I find good quality products that my skin loves and responds to. I feel like its important to invest in a good skincare routine because you have this skin for the rest of your life so taking care of it is super important (I guess you could say I’m a little obsessed! haha)

MORNING ROUTINE:

I wash my face with Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser. This is nice for sensitive skin and cleans off all my makeup. I use O Cosmedics B3 Plus Serum - this gives me a nice glow and really brightens my skin. For moisturiser I use emerging C Earth Hydrating Cream. This is perfect for me, it’s super light weight. Last but not least, I always make sure to apply Skinstitut SPF 50+ Sunscreen. I love this one! It doesn’t feel like you have anything on your skin and it protects me all day long!

NIGHT ROUTINE:

I wash my face with the same Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser to take off my makeup. Then I use Emergin C Multi-Vitamin Retinol Serum. My skin literally drinks this! It is super lightweight and keeps my skin nice and clear. Then I use the same Hydrating cream for my moisturiser. My favourite step and skincare product would have to be my eye cream! I use the Clarins Multi Active Yeux. It’s great for younger skin and I am obsessed with the applicator tip that you use to press into your skin! It’s like a mini massage for under your eyes!

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Sunscreen! I make sure I never leave home without it on. It’s so important as it prevents nasty skin cancers and reduces skin ageing.
  • Less is more! When it comes to skincare I feel it’s good to stick with your key products that you know works well and your skin loves! Your skin will thank you later!
  • Make sure to scrub and apply a facemark 2-3 times a week. My fave mask is Emerging Vitamin C and Retinol. It’s clay based with lemon juice and green tea! it seriously improves skin tones and makes you glow!
